What is Behind the Mega-Hype About CBD Oil?

Fantastic treatment against pain, inflammation, problems with sleep ,skin, and a lot of other problems can be received from products with cannabidiol, a component of the cannabis plant. Many people associate cannabis primarily with drug use, but that’s not how it works. In this review I will explain how cannabidiol (CBD) works and how it can be used.

What is CBD Oil?

The main active ingredients of the cannabis plant are CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol). Unlike THC, which has a psychedelic effect, from which you can get high, the CBD does not have one, and can be used for curing a lot of disease. CBD has anticonvulsant, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, sedative, anxiolytic, and other effects.

CBD has many different uses and is becoming incredibly popular in more and more countries around the world. For example, cafes in the US are now serving CBD coffee, and CBD cocktails are Hollywood's latest craze. It is available as creams, ice, gummy bears and massage oil. Coca-Cola is also thinking about creating a drink with CBD.

Main Difference Between CBD And THC

Like I already said CBD doesn’t have a psychedelic effect, and that is the main difference between these two.

This is due to the fact that CBD does not directly interact with our endocannabinoid system - a unique body system that regulates such elements of life as sleep, appetite and our immune system. It is this direct interaction that gives you the feeling of drug intoxication.

THC initiates a psychological response through the cannabinoid receptors 1 of the endocannabinoid system (CBD1), which are found mainly in the central nervous system and brain. When the CB1 receptor is activated, it produces a psychoactive effect.

CBD does not bind to CB1 receptors and therefore does not affect perception or sensory sensations. In fact, research has shown that when CBD is taken with THC, it can reduce the psychotropic effects of THC, suppressing the properties of CB1 that are activated and, thus, protecting the consumer from excessive intoxication.

What is CBD Oil Useful Against?

  • Epilepsy. According to the initial results, CBD oil may be especially useful for children in the treatment of epilepsy and makes epileptic seizures less common;

  • Pain. Cannabinoids have an analgesic effect. Thus, CBD oil can have a positive effect on joint pain, as well as headaches (migraine) and menstrual cramps. CBD oil has also been used effectively to treat fibromyalgia and arthritis;

  • Skin problems: CBD oil can also have a calming effect on atopic dermatitis, acne and other skin problems, according to multiple clinical studies;

  • Anxiety. According to studies, cannabidiol can slow the production of anxiety hormones. CBD oil not only has a positive effect on daily anxiety, but also helps with anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorders;

  • Stress and sleep disorders: CBD oil has a relaxing effect that improves sleep quality. In addition, problems associated with stress, such as nervousness or irritability, can easily be reduced by using CBD;

  • Cancer treatment: It has also been investigated that CBD oil contributes to faster death of cancer cells, slows tumor growth and inhibits metastasis. Even with chemotherapy, CBD oil can reduce side effects.  In particular, there are countless studies on CBD and effects on cancer. This includes the study of various types of cancer, as well as the possibility of effective use of the CBD. They found that CBD was extremely effective against a tumor and could significantly reduce the viability of tumor cells. It was also proven that CBD has a positive effect on lung cancer. Lung cancer is usually very aggressive and also resistant to chemotherapy, but it was proven that it can’t resist CBD. In addition, breast cancer was a big topic among researchers. As it turned out,  t is possible not only to prevent the growth of breast cancer, but also to stop the spread of cancer cells. A very promising result that gives hope to many people.

Side Effects of CBD

In addition to the positive effects, researchers also found the adverse effects of medical marijuana in studies, such as drowsiness. Dry mouth, and dizziness are also possible. This is because CBD slightly lowers blood pressure.

Forms of CBD

  1. CBD capsules. CBD oil can be used in the capsules and has a pretty good effect. Advantageously, capsules are a lot easier to use if you are on the go, and this is more pleasant for some people, since the product is in the form of oil. In addition, the capsules are tasteless, while the oil is often accompanied by a slightly bitter aftertaste. The disadvantages are that the effect starts a little later and can be more accurately metered with oil or drops. This is especially important for sensitive people, since the dosage in the capsule may be too high. You should also keep in mind that the absorption capacity of the capsules may be lower;

  2. CBD liquids. Cannabidiol-Liquid is designed specifically for electronic cigarettes. In this form it is slightly cheaper than, for example, CBD oil. You can smoke this liquid, just like any other normal liquids for electronic cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes are filled with liquid, so-called liquids. This liquid evaporates and is inhaled through the lungs. Since it is assumed that electronic cigarettes are less harmful than classic ones, its consumption worldwide has increased. As with all products, it is a question of the quality and exact composition of how the CBD can work. When inhaled, it enters the bloodstream very quickly and, therefore, already works after 30–60 minutes;

  3. CBD crystals. You can also buy and take CBD in the form of crystals. They look like large salt crystals and are versatile. Crystals can be used to make cosmetic products, such as creams, ointments or oils. They are also suitable for use with an evaporator. Crystals are rather the raw materials from which numerous CBD products are made. They consist of 98% pure cannabidiol. When taken orally, they work best when the crystals are under the tongue. However, taking crystals, it should be remembered that they act quickly, have a high absorption capacity and, therefore, the dose might be too high, especially for the new customers. Therefore, it should be used very carefully and gradually. It is also possible to process crystals, such as salt or sugar, in food. As a result, the effect and absorption capacity are somewhat lower. People love crystals because of the quality and relatively low price. They can also be dosed higher and act very quickly when taken orally. However, one minus is that it’s pretty hard to calculate the exact dosage;

  4. CBD ointment, cream or paste. In addition to internal use, external use in the form of ointments or creams is also possible. It is likely that the growing popularity and demand for the CBD has led to the CBD being offered in this form. The healing effect of CBD is limited by external exposure to the skin. Thus, skin problems such as blemishes, acne, or skin infections can be treated with it. Since the proportion of cannabidiol in these products is usually quite low, the effectiveness is not too big. Pastes are also available on the market, but so far to a manageable degree. They are slightly less pure than crystals, but cleaner than oil;

  5. CBD cosmetic products. Cosmetics containing CBD are also available. These products can be used for facials and have a positive effect on the body. The proportion of cannabidiol in such products is usually quite low, so they are not suitable for pain relief;

  6. CBD in the form of dried flower. You can legally buy dried hemp flowers and mix them with tobacco. The proportion of cannabinoids in flowers is very high. They can only be obtained from legally prescribed cannabis plants and are also subject to a maximum value of 0.2% THC. However, this is not a 100 percent guarantee, because it is a pure natural product. These flowers are used for the production of oils and, thus, are their raw materials. When inhaled, it is quickly absorbed by the body, but more slowly than in the case of a vaporizer or an electronic cigarette. You should also keep in mind that harmful substances enter the body through smoking. In addition, flowers are difficult to obtain in the market and are mostly available only in hemp shops. In addition to smoking, flowers can be used in many other ways. For example, for own production of cream or oils, for tea or for processing in food;

  7. CBD tea. Tea from the leaves and flowers of hemp also contains the CBD. As in the case of dry flowers, it is a pure natural product. While it is freely available, you can safely assume that the limit of 0.2% THC is not exceeded here. Tea, as a rule, is soothing and not as intense as when taken in the form of oil. Like all natural products, ingredients are subject to certain fluctuations. Therefore, you should try different varieties and manufacturers;

  8. CBD oil. CBD is most often taken in the form of oil or drops. Oil production is usually carried out through the use of cannabidiol crystals. They are enriched with vegetable oil and, thus, provide additional valuable vitamins, minerals or omega-3 fatty acids. In particular, if hemp oil is used for production. CBD oil is obtained from specially approved hemp varieties that have a very low THC value, therefore the maximum value of 0.2% is not exceeded.
